Can you walk up Mt Stromlo?
Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 3 h 3 min to complete. This is a popular trail for hiking, mountain biking, and trail running, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day.
Are there showers at Stromlo?
The mountain bike trails are the real stars but to be complimented by an excellent covered picnic area, clean public toilets and warm showers makes Stromlo an absolute pleasure to visit.
Are dogs allowed at Stromlo Forest Park?
Please remember all dogs are required to be on a lead at all times, and should not be on the single track. The park contains many kilometers of fire trails more suited to these types of activities.
Why is Mount Stromlo closed?
Mt Stromlo was severely damaged by the firestorm of 18 January 2003. As a result, all of the large telescopes at Mount Stromlo Observatory have been decommissioned (click here to read more about the history of our telescopes).

Why is Mt Stromlo closed?
Mount Stromlo Observatory is managed by the ANU Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics. The ANU has made the decision to close many of its sites and campuses due to COVID-19, including the Mount Stromlo Observatory and as a result, Mount Stromlo road is closed.
