Is it good to leave unallocated space?

Can I leave a partition unallocated?

Each partition can be formatted to contain a filesystem. You can leave some space on the drive unallocated and that space will not be used at all. You can later create new partitions in that space for other filesystems or you can extend existing partitions to use that space.

Is it good to have unallocated space on SSD?

No, an unallocated partition would not help extend the life of the SSD. Each cell in an SSD wears down slightly every time it is written to, so that after some number of writes (perhaps thousands, perhaps hundreds, perhaps only dozens, it varies by the model), the cell is too slow to be useful.

How much space should I leave unallocated after creating a partition?

For Small disks (1 GB <= size <2 GB), leave 128MB unallocated after each partition you create. No need to create an EFI partition. For Large Disks (2GB <= size), leave 128MB unallocated after each partition that you created (except the EFI partition and the MSR partition). An EFI partition of 200MB must be created at the beginning of the disk.
